Substance Use Assessment A-2

00:00:25[sil.]

00:00:30UNKNOWN So, Gil, I would like to ask you just a few medical questions, okay about your health.

00:00:30Gil Medical.

00:00:35UNKNOWN Yeah, so are you on any kind of medications?

00:00:35Gil No.

00:00:35UNKNOWN Aspirin.

00:00:40Gil Yes, aspirin every day. I take it everyday. Because I think that it must be good for…

00:00:45UNKNOWN Ibuprofen or…Yeah.

00:00:45Gil I prefer ibuprofen…

00:00:45UNKNOWN Did your Doctor know you're on the aspirin?

00:00:50Gil Yes.

00:00:50UNKNOWN Yeah. Okay, good.

00:00:50Gil So I take it every day.

00:00:55UNKNOWN Uh… What about alcohol? Do you…?

00:00:55Gil Yes, I drink.

00:00:55UNKNOWN You drink. How… how often do you drink alcohol?

00:01:00Gil Not all the time just like on the weekend parties.

00:01:00UNKNOWN Aaha.

00:01:00Gil I got a weekend situation we go out we have a brunch with champagne. Now we have Margarita's and then will be beers. And we have that before the concert for the show's summer house. And it's… it's…. it… It's only on the weekends but it's… it's really the best time. I mean it's the most magical that's when you're supposed to anyway I think.

00:01:25UNKNOWN Now would you ask your mate that's all (inaudible).

00:01:25Gil Sunday's.

00:01:25UNKNOWN is that almost every weekend,

00:01:25Gil Every weekend.

00:01:25UNKNOWN …or once in a while.

00:01:25Gil yeah.

00:01:30UNKNOWN Almost every weekend.

00:01:30Gil I would do it ever

00:01:30UNKNOWN Ever ever during the weekdays or…

00:01:30Gil No never.

00:01:35UNKNOWN What if you're going to a show during the middle of the week or so.

00:01:35Gil no I just drink milk, ice milk.

00:01:35UNKNOWN Ice milk okay. But on the weekends it's like two three days of.

00:01:40Gil Oh yes.

00:01:40UNKNOWN Drinking

00:01:40Gil Yeah every day.

00:01:45UNKNOWN Yeah. And do you ever drink enough that you get intoxicated.

00:01:45Gil No. Yes sometimes.

00:01:50UNKNOWN Sometimes.

00:01:50Gil Most of the time is drunk.

00:01:50UNKNOWN Uh…uh

00:01:55Gil But most of the time it's creatively fun because it opens you up you know so I can invite all these people to my shows into my house. So when so when you have them the music the champagne and the tequila. I noticed when you get them in together it's… it's a happy time. So that's what you want to always have. I think in life you need to have that with everyone as human beings.

00:02:15UNKNOWN Now do you ever drink enough that you pass out.

00:02:15Gil Yes I pass out

00:02:20UNKNOWN How from does that happen?

00:02:20Gil Not a lot, may be every weekend once.

00:02:25UNKNOWN Once during every weekend. What about blackouts where you can't remember what happened. You have those because of the alcohol.

00:02:30Gil You know when you do you kind of get these magical visions and memories and everything so the blackouts are actually cool because you get to see all this like it's an empty canvas. And then I get to… you know painted all the different colours that I that I'm awake when I can actually put that into music or into art.

00:02:50UNKNOWN What does alcohol ever cause you to do things you regret like saying things to people or doing things with people and you wished you didn't do it because you are so…

00:02:55Gil Yeah unfortunately yes drawn to life always get in a fight or something like somebody who's always there you know always asking for it really.

00:03:00UNKNOWN What do you…

00:03:05Gil The ones that really can prove they're an antagonist.

00:03:05UNKNOWN Do you have any legal problems because of the alcohol.

00:03:10Gil I have yes. Oh yeah. Haven't you?

00:03:10UNKNOWN And… and…

00:03:10Gil And it gets in your life sometimes. I mean you've had it happen to you before I'm sure.

00:03:15UNKNOWN Have you ever been arrested because of…

00:03:15Gil Yeah. Once twice.

00:03:20UNKNOWN As… as any of this ever left him going to rehab for the alcohol?

00:03:25Gil Me?

00:03:25UNKNOWN Right.

00:03:25Gil Yeah I went through rehab once. I think that's I went with my one of my cousin.

00:03:30UNKNOWN Right.

00:03:30Gil He and I went together because he thought it'd be easier I guess because he had a really big problem. So I just went with him.

00:03:40UNKNOWN who's idea… Was it his idea?

00:03:40Gil They said his day stay pretty much.

00:03:40UNKNOWN Was it his idea or your idea?

00:03:40Gil it was my aunt's idea.

00:03:45UNKNOWN Your aunt's idea and…

00:03:45Gil I think.

00:03:45UNKNOWN …you said they thought you should stay. Who did you mean they the people at the clinic or the rehab center.

00:03:55Gil Yes, people are said I should stay.

00:03:55UNKNOWN (inaudible).

00:03:55Gil It was good I mean

00:03:55UNKNOWN And how long…

00:04:00Gil You know when I'm not even worried about it. It wasn't anything. I feel great about it. They were nice. Very nice thing. If you give me a bed.

00:04:05UNKNOWN And how long were you there.

00:04:05Gil That was great because I can really get a lot of sleep I told you.

00:04:10UNKNOWN Right. And how long were you there in the rehab?

00:04:10Gil I don't know. Probably weekend.

00:04:15UNKNOWN And have you had any medical conditions because of the alcohol.

00:04:20Gil No.

00:04:20UNKNOWN Getting tremmers.

00:04:25Gil Oh yes. I get tremors in the morning. Monday morning. That's what the milk does. Milk calms you down…

00:04:30UNKNOWN you tell me out well you drink any alcohol in the morning to try…

00:04:35Gil Never.

00:04:35UNKNOWN Calm down. So…

00:04:35Gil No.

00:04:35UNKNOWN Have you ever…

00:04:35Gil That only starts at 11:00.

00:04:40UNKNOWN Have you ever tried to stop drinking altogether like.

00:04:40Gil No.

00:04:40UNKNOWN For several months or…

00:04:40Gil No, no, no, no.

00:04:45UNKNOWN Even weeks.

00:04:45Gil Never.

00:04:45Gil without drinking.

00:04:45Gil Drinking great.

00:04:45UNKNOWN So you…

00:04:45Gil Drinking Puts me in the good spots.

00:04:50UNKNOWN So you like the alcohol.

00:04:50Gil Yeah you too.

00:04:55UNKNOWN What about marijuana. Do you smoke… smoke marijuana or in

00:04:55Gil I never liked it really. When I was a teenager I smoked it with my friends. We will get down to the little creek or something and we sit there and they would smoke and be like wow I got to try this case and I'm going to be cool if I did that. But it was me being paranoid and tired and scared and small, small, small I would walk down the street.

00:05:15UNKNOWN That was not a good feeling.

00:05:15Gil No.

00:05:20UNKNOWN that.. that…

00:05:20Gil You know what I mean, did you smoke pot.

00:05:20UNKNOWN Have you done it recently.

00:05:25Gil Reflection slows you down. No. I can't.

00:05:25UNKNOWN You don't like them slow down.

00:05:25Gil No. I can't. I mean I can I get things that do. It really is tiring. It's crazy.

00:05:30UNKNOWN So it's

00:05:30Gil Not like to let light two levels down.

00:05:35UNKNOWN So you talk about the fast racing thoughts.

00:05:35Gil Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:05:35UNKNOWN It ever slows you down

00:05:40Gil Yeah it does it does. Yeah. And you don't want to like that because I have to. I have to work so I feel guilty so I have to. This was me down was like going in the middle of a song… and boom it's like flat.

00:05:50UNKNOWN So does make this marijuana. When's the last time you used marijuana.

00:05:55Gil Someone gave me one of those new sticks the vaporizer or the tape. So I did that and that was bad. It was really bad.

00:06:05UNKNOWN What was bad about it.

00:06:05Gil It made me sad.

00:06:10UNKNOWN Sad okay.

00:06:10Gil And sad and scared and small.

00:06:15UNKNOWN Did it ever make you hallucinate where you hear things or see things that are.

00:06:15Gil Picture their.

00:06:15UNKNOWN Pictures

00:06:20Gil Picture. Yeah.

00:06:20UNKNOWN (inaudible) evil.

00:06:20Gil Yeah like scary you know. Like you know scream the movie or Halloween or something like that pictures.

00:06:30UNKNOWN Gory or.

00:06:30Gil Yes dead dogs…

00:06:30UNKNOWN Dead dogs. So you saw dead dog when you do that?

00:06:35Gil Yup I don't want to say that again. Oh its bad murder.

00:06:40UNKNOWN So you've been staying away from that.

00:06:40Gil Yes.

00:06:45UNKNOWN How about in any other form like in foods or oils or.

00:06:50Gil Yeah. One time mistake someone gave me talk to cookie with chocolate chip cookies. You thought that was really you know delicious and it made me all crazy and then I went… into this… place complete quiet.

00:07:05UNKNOWN Just a couple more questions about marijuana. You said that slows down your thoughts.

00:07:10Gil Yes.

00:07:15UNKNOWN Is it ever in a good way that it kind of slows down your thoughts.

00:07:20Gil Yeah like when you're around you know when my grandmother died. It's like you go to a funeral you know really calm it really takes all the edge off. And then in court like in a courthouse situation where you're on trial or something it give me (inaudible) you know calm you can handle the situation.

00:07:40UNKNOWN So use it for situations like that.

00:07:40Gil Yeah. Yeah I don't like to do that. But I do I have to have I wouldn't get through it.

00:07:45UNKNOWN Have you ever gotten in legal trouble because of the marijuana?

00:07:50Gil Legal like in prison.

00:07:50UNKNOWN Arrested.

00:07:55Gil Yes. Oh yeah. And it wasn't my fault again. She was around some of them doing it and I just I just take a taste of it. And then all of a sudden I'm like I can't talk. So it's like I can't get myself out of this situation is probably a lie. But it makes me feel better. It makes you feel like I can handle it. Right. I mean I mean right. I mean it calms you.

00:08:20UNKNOWN It slows down your thoughts

00:08:20Gil …heart and your brain and everything's like.

00:08:25UNKNOWN A lot of people with bipolar disorder. They say you know slows down their thoughts.

00:08:30Gil Yeah. Oh it does. Yeah. The most. Yes.

00:08:30UNKNOWN Any other drugs.

00:08:35Gil No.

00:08:35UNKNOWN Any meds.

00:08:35Gil No.

00:08:35UNKNOWN Prescribe.

00:08:35Gil I don't want taking.

00:08:40UNKNOWN Opiates heroin, shooting up with needles I.V. drugs.

00:08:45Gil No. Would you do that?

00:08:45UNKNOWN No.

00:08:45Gil Oh Never. That's bad. Now that's bad.

00:08:50UNKNOWN And It could be dangerous.

00:08:50Gil No, not that bad.

00:08:55UNKNOWN Okay. Well thanks.

00:08:55Gil its an alcohol pretty much.

00:08:55UNKNOWN Okay well thanks for talking with us.

00:09:00Gil Well thank you for asking me all this. I feel better think they could use a scotch right now.
