Beaches in the British Virgin Islands

By Kenniqua Grate

The beaches in the British Virgin Islands are breath taking, and the calm waves make the place ideal for visitors. One of the most common beaches in the Virgin Islands is located at the Baths. This beach has white sand, but what makes it our most popular beach are the huge boulders which is made up of some enormous formations that go as high as 40 feet. The beach curves from volcanic activities that happened thousands of years ago, which gives it unique geological features. The beach is perfect for snorkeling and has a sandy bottom, which makes it perfect for collecting orange cup corals, sponges, and marine spices. Between the granite boulders at the Baths, you can find perfect picture glittering blue waters that make the place worthwhile a visit. The volcanic activities have shaped the place into one of the tourist destinations one would never want to miss.

The second beach I visited is Cane Garden Bay. The beach has turquoise water, and similar to the beach at the baths, it is a perfect place for snorkeling, and visitors can enjoy the beautiful sunset. The island has one of the longest stretches of white sand, and it is strategically located in a perfect place where visitors can enjoy a bottle of beer and a dance after spending their day in the waters. The beach has modern restrooms for its visitors, convenient parking, and a dozen different restaurants where visitors can fill their appetites.

The third beach is White Bay Beach; this is located on Jost Van Dyke, which is among the most popular beaches for boaters coming from The USVI for a day trip. It is made up of pristine white beaches and has clear blue waters. This beach has a more rugged scenery, and one of the most renowned activities is its rich culture. It is also the home of yacht parties, mainly during the holidays. The beach has a vibrant beach bar culture and a couple of other facilities, such as washrooms and bathrooms that are available for visitors. The beach has well-known bars, and visitors can enjoy activities such as paddle boarding and snorkeling. Thus, the beach has similar beach vibes as the Baths and Cane Garden Bay.

According to Luijendijk et al. (2018), although coastal zones historically attract numerous human activities, they have diverse ecosystems, aesthetic value, and abundant amenities that provide services. The three beaches have different coastal landforms; the barriers, sea cliffs, and tidal flats differ among the three beaches. Similarly, they have different amenities and provide different aesthetics. Nonetheless, the three beaches have white fine sand beaches, and they are perfect places for snorkeling. Moreover, the restaurants provide visitors with the best foods, accommodations, and drinks. The beach assessment of the Baths, Cane Garden Bay, and White Bay shows historical shoreline changes that have resulted from different geological activities such as volcanic eruptions and hurricane disruptions, which altered several aspects of the beaches. In conclusion, the three beaches have more in common in terms of accommodation space, waves, wind, and different underlying geology, which makes each unique.
